HOLLYWOOD–The crowd grew silent at The Avalon Hollywood, on August 18, 2013, while Stan Lee dedicated an original hymn about being a geek as he accepted the Lifetime Achievement award at the first annual Geekie Awards.

For those few minutes, everyone watching was connected as Stan’s words went viral across all forms of media, and another powerful moment for geeks was born. From idol speeches, to creators accepting recognition for the very first time, The Geekie Awards cultivates moments that inspire creation, achievement, and hard work, and bring our culture together with pride.

When Geekies Executive Producer and Showrunner, Kristen Nedopak, created this award show in 2011, she and her Geekies Team, wanted to create a show that didn’t focus on celebrity accolades, but celebrated independent creators, artists, filmmakers, and game developers from all over the world; and a show that was available for every country to see. This show stands alone as one that will foster hope in creative industries, showcase new talent worldwide, and show off the multitude of genres within “geek” to an international audience of industry leaders and fans who may not otherwise discover it.

“This year, we were lucky to find brands that connected with and supported indie artists on every level, from helping us promote their work, to joining forces in creating an event so monumental, new talent will be seen worldwide,” Kristen Nedopak said. “Joining forces with Gibson was a logical choice, as the company has a history of supporting the creative arts, and many of our submissions to this year’s award show heavily embraced music to propel their themes and stories. It’s one of those elements that enhances every artistic venture—whether it be a film, a game, or a device artists use to inspire their work. We wanted to acknowledge that by joining together with Gibson.”

“As a geek myself, it is a personal privilege to support The Geekie Awards.  As an enterprise, Gibson Brands is committed to creators and to bringing the fruits of their creative output to consumers, ensuring their creative work is reproduced in the most exceptional way with brands like Philips, Onkyo and TEAC.  It is innovation, passion, and technology that makes all our lives richer and better,” stated Henry Juszkiewicz, CEO of Gibson Brands, Inc.

The 2014 Geekie Awards will be live-streamed via Twitch TV on August 17.
